Sleeping To Dream About You

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

He came home and surprised me.. I was sleeping and when I woke up he was there beside me.. smiling at me.. promising that he would never leave again..

Well.. that's what happened in my dream last night anyway.. *sigh* I woke up this morning praying that my dream was reality, but it wasn't. Needless to say I was bummed.. and it only made the emptiness in my heart ache even more..

 * * *

We're in the finals days of this horrible beast (aka, deployment) and I feel like everyone is expecting me to jump & down with joy as each day passes but I just can't. I am beyond excited (and very very anxious) that he is coming home, but he's not here yet.. he's still there.. in a war zone.. and I'm still here without him.. praying that he is safe and well. The harsh reality that anything could happen at any time has not left my mind.. and I won't be over the moon-jumping up & down excited or even able to breathe again until I see him walking off that bus towards me.. It's just how it's always been. Most people don't get it.. and honestly I don't think anyone will understand until you've actually been through it.. but I can't be the only mil spouse that feels this way right before a homecoming, right?

5K & A Wedding

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Saturday was exhausting fun for me. I had to wake up around 5 AM to volunteer at a Miles for Fallen Heroes Charity [5K and 1 mile fun] Run. I'm glad I volunteered because it turned out to be a lot of fun! +We raised almost $2,000 for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation!! How awesome is that?!

Later that afternoon I attended my dad's wedding. It was held at a local yacht club.. the ceremony was outside on a deck overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.. it was beautiful and very sweet, but it was a little chilly and windy--which made my hair look a mess during & after the ceremony!

Oh! & the Maid of Honor (that you see to the left) is my new sister! :)

The reception was a blast!! My friend Anna was my date for the night since J couldn't be there, and I'm soooo thankful that she was willing and able to go with me! She saved me twice that night when two different people made rude comments to me (I'll talk about it later).. if she wouldn't have been there with me I honestly probably would have left early because I was so upset. +She actually got me on the dance floor--which is a huge shocker because I DO NOT DANCE! haha I'm still not sure how she managed to do it, but I'm glad she did because I had so much fun!

I loved the cake! It was soo pretty and yummy!!

Towels

Thursday, March 25, 2010

[I'm so glad I'm not alone on the sweatpants and t'shirt thing! & It's true, spending an extra 5-10 minutes to dress yourself up definitely makes you feel better about yourself.]

Today I was checking out a forum and I saw a discussion where a lady asked how many towels people used at a time. Most of the people that replied said they only use one towel at a time.. and they also mentioned reusing their towels.. some said they go a week, sometimes two, before using a new one.. and some even mentioned using the same towel as their spouse & kids.

I'm sorry, but that really grosses me out! (No offense to anyone that does this.)

I personally like a fresh towel after every shower and I can't imagine sharing the same towel for a week with my husband. Yes I understand that when you get out of a shower you are clean, but sharing a towel with your whole family doesn't seem very hygienic to me.. and why would I want to use a towel that my husband possibly used to dry his butt? I understand people want to save water and laundry detergent.. and I could probably deal with using one towel for two days (maybe even 3) but I just can't see me sharing a towel with everyone in my household.. especially for up to a week..

What about you?

(& once again, no offense. I'm not trying to bash anyone that does this. This is just my personal opinion.)

NO Sweatpants, T'Shirts Allowed

Monday, March 22, 2010

I went shopping a few weeks ago with my mom and my aunt. I was having a great time.. until they decided to give me a mini intervention. No, I'm not on drugs or anything! This intervention was about my wardrobe. Let me explain..

Since my husband (J) has been deployed I feel that I have no one to impress, so I have been wearing a lot of t'shirts and sweatpants. Dressing up to me during this deployment has = me having makeup on and my hair fixed.. while wearing a t'shirt and/or sweatpants. If you're lucky I'm going to Wally World I might wear jeans but that's if I'm in a good mood. HA!

So my mom and aunt thought it would be good idea to set up an intervention to make sure I don't continue to look like a slob when J returns home from deployment. They basically lectured me about looking good for my man, told me I was no longer allowed to wear sweatpants or t'shirts (unless I'm working out or cleaning), and then helped me find a bunch of outfits. At one point even the sales lady got involved and was lecturing me!! It was definitely an afternoon that I will always remember! haha

& I'm happy to report that I've been doing good so far! Mostly because my mom went through my dresser and got rid of all my sweatpants and t'shirts... HA!

What's Been Going On

    {This post is very random.. Please forgive me ahead of time!}
  • At the beginning of the month we (the FRG / homecoming committee) painted "welcome home" signs that will be posted on the base. I've been hoping the FRG would put pictures from the event on their website so I could share a few with y'all, but.. no such luck. All the signs turned out super cute though!
  • The reality that J will be coming home very very soon is finally starting to hit me. I think for a while I was afraid to get too excited because I didn't want to get my hopes up if he was extended again..
  • All the plans for the big move have been going smoothly so far. Two weeks ago I received a phone call from the housing office in ________, and I'm happy to announce that we will NOT be living in our vehicles when we arrive! *big big big sigh of relief* ha  They said we should be able to sign a lease and move in the day we arrive.
  • I'm still not ready to discuss where we will be moving to. Besides safety reasons, I'm just worried plans will change at the last minute..
  • Last week my friend Jessica was in town, and on Monday we went shopping.

I had a really good time! It was nice to get out of the house and be around someone my age/other than family. On Tuesday we went to see the new Robert Pattinson movie..
  • I loved it! The ending was not at all what I was expecting. If you haven't seen this movie, go see it!
  • On Saturday I went to see the new Gerard Butler movie..
  • My friend Anna went with me and we both really enjoyed it! I give this movie two thumbs up. HA! :)
  • I finally found a dress to wear to my dad's wedding! & I got it on sale! *angels singing hallelujah* I also found a homecoming outfit! It unfortunately was not on sale..  =(  Oh, and you will be able to see pictures of the dress I got for the wedding after Saturday! ;)
  • Do you ever volunteer yourself for something and then later wish you never opened your big mouth?? Yeah. I did that. It helps a great cause though, so in the end I know I will be glad I did it.
  • With these big events + summer coming up I've been very tempted to go to a tanning salon (like I use to do when I was younger).. but then I read this and I was reminded that I'm beautiful even if I'm tan or not. & Seriously, I would rather be pasty white than risk getting skin cancer!

Heartbreaking

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Today I've been super emotional, and I've cried so much that my eyes are puffy & my head hurts. The crazy part is that I've been crying for someone I've never met..

Her name is Rachel. She's my age. She's a military wife. She had been dreaming about the day her beloved husband would return home from Helmand Province, Afghanistan and finally be able to meet his baby girl. She is now going through every military family's worst nightmare.

Please keep the Porto family in your thoughts and prayers.

& Please, please, please keep praying for our troops!

Thanks & Me

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Hi to all the new followers from FF! Thanks for the comments! :) Sorry if I haven't replied or commented on your blog yet.. I've been super busy this weekend, but I'm trying to get back to each one of you as soon as I can. In all honesty I wasn't expecting to receive so many comments and new followers after linking up with Friday Follow.. It's been fun though! :) & I want you to know that I really appreciate every single comment!!

Since some of you are new I thought I would tell you who I am and all that fun stuff! So, here we go..

My name is K. I was born & raised in here the South, but the only time you will hear my Southern accent is if I'm mad. Well, that's what my husband says anyway! Ha. My husband, J, is a Seabee in the United States Navy.. hence, my blog title! :) I created this blog last March when we suppose to PCS (aka, move) to California. It started as a fun and easy way to keep our families &friends updated on our big move, but it quickly became a place for me to vent my fears/frustrations when things changed at the last minute.. Instead of moving to CA we had to stay here in XX, and then J had to go on his 4th deployment (our 3rd together). This deployment hasn't been easy, but by the grace of God it is only making us + our love stronger! J will be home very VERY soon (THANK GOD!!), and then we will be PCSing to XX. {For safety reasons I'm not allowed to discuss homecoming dates, and right now I don't feel comfortable sharing where we will be PCSing to.. so please don't ask.} We're so excited that deployment is almost over, and we're looking forward to the new adventures that will come with moving to XX. I hope you will follow along with us on this crazy military journey! :)

Yesterday J (my husband) called and we were able to talk for 2 hours!! That may seem like no big deal to most people, but that is the longest we've been able to talk for 7 months! (Normally he is only allowed to use the phone for 15 minutes.) It made my whole day month! I still feel like I'm on cloud nine! Funny how a simple phone call can do that to ya. :)

Wishful Wed

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Every Wednesday Kelsey @  The Seattle Smith's does this fun thing called Wishful Wednesday.. & Today I decide to join in on the fun!

'I wish' .... I could have gone to the 2010 Winter Olympics to see one event, and it would have been _________!

Team USA hockey!
I ♥ ♥ ♥ hockey! It's the only sport I can watch & not lose any interest.

My second choice would have to be short track speed skating.
I'm a big fan of Apolo Ohno and Allison Baver.

I'm bummed.. The dress I was going to buy for my dad's wedding is no longer available in my size!! Ugh, don't you hate when that happens?? I'm kicking myself for procrastinating & not buying it sooner! I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I will be able to find something out in town/at the mall.

Well, it took us a month but we FINALLY got in touch with the housing office in ______! *big sigh of relief* I have been so so SO stressed about finding a place to live. Since we are moving in the summer I have been worried housing wouldn't have any openings because it seems like everyone & their momma usually PCS during the summer months. Housing has reassured me that they will not allow us to live on the streets or in our cars so that makes me feel better I guess. Ha.

Max had his first heartworm treatment last week. He did great and still doesn't act like he is sick. I'm suppose to keep him calm and quiet while he is going through the treaments (or he will get sick).. which means he shouldn't bark or run around.. for 3 months.. Let me tell you, it hasn't been easy! Max is a very hyper active pup, and one of his favorite things to do is play fetch/chase a ball around. Yesterday he found one of his favorite balls (that I thought I had hidden) and he was being too active so I had to take it away.. I felt horrible!! I gave him a bunch of his favorite treats though and I think that made up for it. :)

It's March, and that means..
