Stay Or Go??

Monday, March 28, 2011

Since the birth of our "Wee-Bee" it has become clear to both J and I that we are ready to move on from the military. We want to settle down and plant roots somewhere close to family. We want to buy a house with a big backyard for Joel and our future babies (J wants 6 now by the way!) to make special memories.

The #1 reason J wants to get out is because he doesn't want Joel to ever experience the heartache that comes with deployments. It's hard enough for him to leave me, and now that Joel has entered his life he can't imagine ever having to leave him. J wants to make sure he will be there for all our Joel's firsts, every holiday, and every t-ball game. He wants Joel to go to bed every night with peace knowing his daddy is in the next room, not worrying because daddy is in a war zone.

The only problem is J has no idea what he would do if he got out. Right now we have a steady income and if J gets out we risk not having that which is scary when you have a child to take care of. Is the risk worth it though?

Most people have told him to just stay in, don't risk it, and retire at 38. Those people have never experienced a deployment, though. They have no idea how stressful this lifestyle can be for a family/marriage.

We have a year or so before J has to make the final decision on whether he wants to stay in or get out. I guess all we can do is pray about it and hope he makes the right choice.

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

I'm loving that it's finally spring! It's my favorite season!

I'm loving that we are going to visit my family soon! I can't wait to feel the warm southern weather, and to be able to wear flip-flops again!!

I'm loving the giveaway at Magnolias, Marriage, and Manhattan for an adorable Easter basket from Monogram Madness! I would love to get one for Joel.. it would be a great keepsake for him to use every year!

Speaking of Easter..
I'm loving the Easter decor from PB!
{If we are blessed with another baby I want to do the nursery in a light shade of pink or blue, and decorate with white bunnies. Why didn't I think of that when I was having such a hard time decorating Joel's room? I have no idea. J would probably kill me if I changed the room again though so I will just have to save that idea for next time. Ha!}

One Month Old!

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Joel ~
I can't believe you are one month old! It seems like just yesterday we brought you home from the hospital. Everyone keeps telling me and Daddy not to blink because you will be grown man before we know it! I'm starting to think they may be right because according the pediatrician you definitely are growing fast! On February 7th, at your newborn follow up, you weighed 7 lbs 8 oz.. On February 9th you had a checkup to make sure you were eating enough, and you weighed 8 lbs 3 oz.. And on February 21st, at your two week checkup, you were 9 lbs 10 oz and 22.5 inches long! Me and Daddy are already taking bets on how big we think you will be at your next checkup! I have to admit though.. it's a little bittersweet for Mommy that you are growing so fast! I'm excited to watch you learn and experience new things, but part of me wants you to stay my little baby forever! I know that's not possible though so for now I'm just going to cherish every single moment the best I can.

A week after you were born you were able to meet your Grammie. She stayed with us for a week and y'all quickly bonded. We were sad when she had to leave.. and Grammie was worried you would forget about her, but you always smile super big when you hear her voice on the phone so I don't think that's a problem! :)
I can't wait for you to meet the rest of your family in a few months! They already love you so much and I know it breaks their hearts that they can't see you now. Mommy and Daddy are hoping (and praying) that one day we will live closer to all of them so they can be a bigger part of your life.

Mommy loves you, Joel!
