Our Trip To The South - Vacation Recap 1

Sunday, May 29, 2011

We celebrated Joel's first Easter while we were in the South. The Easter Bunny brought lots of goodies that he loved. ;)DSCN0418_2

On Easter we went to a crawfish boil. It was a really nice day but we ate way too much food (crawfish, shrimp, gumbo, & lots of desserts) so we were in a food coma for the rest of the day! HA

The main reason we traveled home to the South was for my friend's wedding that I was a bridesmaid in.

There were peacocks roaming around the venue.. during the ceremony one walked right in front of the bride & groom and showed everyone its beautiful feathers! It was awesome!

Me and my cutie! :)

We had a baby dedication ceremony a few days later at the base chapel.

It was a last minute thing (hence my less than fabulous outfit), and I'm SO thankful that the Chaplain agreed to do it for us. It was really special. Looking back I wish I would've had someone record it for us!

The only person other than family that we invited to the ceremony was my friend A. We have been friends since we were 12 or 13. When J and I were discussing the whole godparents/who would we leave the baby with in case something happened thing, I didn't even have to second guess that it would be A.

There aren't many people you can trust in this world, and for me to trust someone--especially with my son--says ALOT! I know without a doubt that if something happened to us A would take care of Joel like he was her own. That's just the type of person/friend she is.

Home Sweet Home

Sunday, May 22, 2011

We are back from our trip! We spent two weeks in the South visiting my family and then two weeks in the North visiting J's family. &I'm happy to report that I finally conquered my fear of flying on an airplane! {Please note that it wasn't my choice though. HAHA} The first flight I was super nervous.. every little sound freaked me out, and I'm pretty sure I squeezed J's hand harder on that flight than I did during child birth! I eventually relaxed around the 3rd or 4th flight though, and I now consider myself a travel pro when it comes to flying. Okay maybe not a pro.. but after six flights with an infant I think I at least deserve a tall glass of something that contains lots of alcohol pat on the back! HA Speaking of Joel.. he did AWESOME on each flight. We had lots of people comment on how great he did. We were both VERY thankful that we weren't the couple with the screaming baby that everyone wants to throw off the plane. HA

Joel was a little fussy during our first week in the South but we were expecting it since he wasn't use to being around a bunch of people. He eventually warmed up to it and by the time we got to the North he was loving being spoiled all the attention. :) Unfortunately all that attention got him sick though. Well, actually.. he is sick from people touching his face and hands (that he loves to put in his mouth) with their dirty hands. Seriously, why do people insist on doing that? It drives me nuts. I even caught someone (I barely knew) sticking their finger in his mouth! Ugh. I guess I need to make a sign to put around his neck that says "LOOK, BUT DON'T TOUCH," you know since J won't let me put Wee-Bee in a bubble. ;)

Pictures from our trip are coming soon! Promise!

On Vacation

We have been in the South enjoying time with family!
I have tons to post about but the Internet I'm using is slow so it will have to wait.
Hopefully this cute picture of our Wee-Bee will hold ya over til then! ;)

Two Months Old!

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Joel turned two months old last week! He now weighs 13lbs 4oz, and is almost 25 inches long! He is turning into a little chunky monkey! hehe ;)

He is ALWAYS smiling and "talking" to us. He especially loves cooing at his daddy. It's the sweetest thing ever! (I have a video of him "talking," I just have to figure out to how post it!)

He is getting better at holding his head up during tummy time. And sometimes it looks like he is trying VERY hard to roll over or move himself forward while on his tummy.
He recently discovered his hands/fingers. He always has one in his mouth now. One night I woke up and he had both hands in his mouth.. one on top of the other.. it was too funny!
See those keys he is holding? That's one of his favorite toys. His other favorite is a rattle. He gets so excited when he is holding them -- he moves his arms up and down (against his sides) super fast!

Oh, and this is his favorite way to fall asleep.. :)

"Me" Time

Monday, April 11, 2011

Friday afternoon I had some much needed "me" time. I went to the hair salon and left Joel at home with J for the first time. I was nervous Joel would cry the whole time I was gone but thankfully he did great. I fed him before I left so he slept the whole time and didn't even know I was gone. I was greeted at the door with big smiles when I got home which was the sweetest thing ever ;) but --

I still felt guilty for leaving him. In fact, all week I went back & forth on whether I was going to go to the appointment. I knew a break would be good for me, but I just had this overwhelming guilt. (I guess that's normal for new mom's? I don't know.) In the end I really appreciated the break. It was nice to get out of the house, to drive the car and listen to whatever I wanted as loud as I wanted, and have girl mom talk with someone face to face instead of over the phone or FB chat.

I now think it should be mandatory for mommas to have a break every now & then! It doesn't have to be anything spectacular.. an hour at the salon for a hair cut, a pedicure, or a quick trip to Tarjay alone would be great. Heck, I would even be happy with just an uninterrupted shower or bubble bath so I could wash my hair and shave my legs!  :)
